ZeroRisk International - Founder Story

Written by Tony Loughran | Nov 21, 2025 5:00:00 AM

For more than 40 years I’ve had the privilege, and the responsibility, of working in places where the consequences of risk are very real.

From my early days as a Commando Medic to my time protecting BBC journalists in conflict zones, one thing has stayed constant throughout my career:

the absolute importance of keeping people safe.

In May 2000, while investigating the tragic death of our BBC driver, Abed Takoush, in Lebanon, I realised something that shaped the rest of my life. The dangers were known. The risks were understood locally. But there was no central way to share that life-saving information with the people who needed it most.

That should never happen.

Out of that loss came the first version of ZeroRisk, a simple tool to help journalists report and access real-time warnings. Years later, that mission evolved into SecApp, the first high-risk reporting app designed to put critical safety intelligence in the palm of your hand.

Both were created for one reason:
better information saves lives.

Today, ZeroRisk International has grown into a global consultancy, but our mission has never changed. We remain boutique, hands-on, and deeply personal in the way we support organisations and their people. I’ve always believed that safety is not a product, it’s a promise.

As I reflect on the journey I shared in my autobiography, I’m reminded not to forget my roots or the people who shaped my path. Every lesson, every challenge, every moment has reinforced why I continue to do this work.

To protect. To inform. To ensure no one faces danger alone.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of the journey so far.
The mission continues.
